Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, beloved as one of the world's most popular dance companies, will further a cherished legacy of uplifting and uniting audiences across the globe with a FREE holiday virtual season from December 2 - December 31, 2020 celebrating six decades of Revelations.
Ailey's extraordinary dancers will elevate a legacy of innovation and excellence in artistry with a reimagined season featuring world premieres of Associate Artistic Director Matthew Rushing, in partnership with Company member Clifton Brown, and former Company member Yusha-Marie Sorzano's Testament and Jamar Roberts' A Jam Session for Troubling Times. A variety of other special offerings extend throughout the holidays, including Family Programs for Revelations and Ailey & Ellington; a celebration of acclaimed dancers Glenn Allen Sims and Linda Celeste Sims with a farewell tribute performance; and a series of BattleTalk conversations, moderated by Artistic Director Robert Battle. o Mon., Dec. 7 @ 7:30pm EST thru Dec. 14 - "Dancing Spirit" / BattleTalk - featuring Artistic Director Robert Battle in conversation with Reverend Eboni Marshall Turman and singer Toshi Reagon, plus a performance by students from The Ailey School and an excerpt from a performance of Matthew Rushing's ODETTA by the Ailey company.
o Wed., Dec. 9 @ 7:30pm EST thru Dec. 16 - "Celebrating Glenn Allen Sims and Linda Celeste Sims" - featuring performance excerpts from Love Songs, Memoria, Night Creature, Polish Pieces, Revelations, and The Winter in Lisbon, plus a conversation among choreographer Ronald K. Brown and the Sims. o Fri., Dec. 11 @ 7:30pm EST thru Dec. 18 - "Dancing for Social Justice" / BattleTalk - featuring Artistic Director Robert Battle in conversation with choreographers Kyle Abraham and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar and social justice activist Bryan Stevenson, plus excerpts of Abraham's Untitled America and Zollar's Shelter.
o Mon., Dec. 14 @ 7:30pm EST thru Dec. 21 - World Premiere of A Jam Session for Troubling Times by Jamar Roberts / BattleTalk - with a conversation about the music and influence of Charlie "Bird" Parker between Roberts and Artistic Director Robert Battle.
o Thurs., Dec. 17 @ 7:30pm EST thru Dec. 24 - World Premiere of Testament by Matthew Rushing, Clifton Brown, and Yusha-Marie Sorzano, plus a conversation among the three choreographers about the work's creation.
o Sat., Dec. 19 @ 2:00pm EST thru Dec. 26 - Revelations Family Program - featuring a performance of the beloved classic and an interactive workshop taught by former Company members Nasha Thomas and Michael Thomas with student participants learning excerpts of "Wade in the Water" and "Rocka My Soul in the Bosom of Abraham." All ages and experience levels are welcome.
o Wed., Dec. 23 @7:30pm EST thru Dec. 31 - Decades of Revelations program - featuring rarely-seen historic excerpts of the beloved classic recorded over the last 60 years, and a workshop presentation teaching the opening section ("I've Been 'Buked") of Mr. Ailey's signature ballet.
